a) Compare the character of Merricat from We Have Always Lived in the Castle to Lady Macbeth from Macbeth. What similarities do you see between them? Who, can you argue, is a more redeemable character? Are both morally corrupt? Why?
b) Compare the relationships between Merricat and Constance to that of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Who is truly in power/control in these dynamics? Why are these relationships ultimately unhealthy?
