Discussion: Independent Contractors
Read these two articles - "The Advantages and Disadvantages of Hiring an Independent Contractor" and "Should I Be an Employee or Independent Contractor?"
The U.S. Department of Labor and several states have been focusing on businesses that use independent contractors claiming that these contractors are really employees and should be classified as such.
1. After reading the articles, do you think the government should continue this enforcement effort or take off the pressure? Why?
2. Comment on the findings of two classmates.
Make it a substantive conversation of the laws being discussed. "I agree" or "I disagree" or similar phrases are not enough of a response.
The response should include a reference list. Double-space, using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
