Water treatment:
Clean water is essential for life. It is also a necessity for most industrial processes. Although many of the different processes we have discussed in this unit do not directly focus on water treatment, it is a process that is vital for proper operation of energy facilities. In the future, you may have an opportunity to process and treat water so it is safe to drink, and safe to return to the environment. Most facilities that use water have some type of water treatment process.
Your assignment is to research one of the two following topics regarding water treatment. Both topics deal with water quality. Then, you must compose a written report explaining your research.
How is water treated so that it is safe for consumption (potable water)? How is water further treated so that it can be used in an energy facility? For example, explain processes necessary to achieve “boiler quality” water.
