Charlotte Pileaux applied to the FAA for an airmen’s medical certificate. The FAA granted the certificate but then withdrew it because she had a medical history of bipolar, a disqualifying medical condition. Charlotte requested an exemption from the medical limitations and to her petition attached extensive medical records of her present medical condition which was positive and supported her claim that her condition was controlled. One of her supporting medical records came from her physician, Dr. Eugong, who was also bipolar and was a current pilot who had been granted an exemption from the FAA which allowed Dr. Eugong to fly. Dr. Eugong submitted a declaration that Charlotte’s bipolar condition was less severe than Dr. Eugong’s and, therefore, supported Charlotte’s request to the FAA for an exemption for her medical condition.
