Centimorgan (cM) is the unit of measure of a statistical probability recombination frequency between the alleles. One centimorgan is equal to the 1% chance that a marker at one genetic locus will be separated from the marker at a second locus due to crossing over in the same generation. In the human beings, 1 centimorgan is equivalent, on standard, to 1 million base pairs.
