Cellulose is found in all plants and thus is the most abundant of all carbohydrates. It is the substance required to form cell walls and another structural features of the plants. Wood is approximately 50% cellulose and the rest is lignin. Paper and Cotton are basically composed of cellulose.

Pure cellulose is acquired by consecutively reacting flax, cotton or paper, wool with dilute alkali, dilute HCL or HF. This reaction alters mineral matter, water and ether. Cellulose is left behind like a white amorphous powder.
