CAPP for Casting and Welding
In this , we have studied the CAPP systems for Casting and Welding processes. Compared to the traditional (manual) process planning methods, CAPP systems offer significant benefits in terms of reduced planning time and cost and consistency in decision making. Very few CAPP systems have been developed for the casting and welding processes compared to the machining process domain, In this Unit, CAPP systems for Casting based on both Variant and Knowledge based (Expert) techniques have been discussed in detail in terms of their modular architecture, functional utilities and the data base. A semi-generative CAPP system for welding operations used in sheet metal fabrication has been discussed in detail in terms of its various functional modules.
