Consider an instance in which someone has verbally or nonverbally used a stereotype in an interaction with you. This instance must be a recent first-hand experience. Perhaps you are the one who used the stereotype. Pick a stereotype that actually had some effect on the interaction (e.g., a subtle conversation topic shift, someone laughing, someone being offended) and address each of the following:
Briefly describe the interaction in which the stereotype occurred.
Name at least one beneficial effect the stereotype had on the interaction.
Name at least one detrimental effect the stereotype had on the interaction.
Describe the response to the stereotype (e.g., silence, contradiction, agreement, appreciation of stereotype).
Name at least one beneficial effect the response to the stereotype had on the interaction.
Name at least one detrimental effect the response to the stereotype had on the interaction.
