Problem: First, utilizing an anthropological perspective, discuss how genetic evidence supports evolutionary theory and a common ancestor for all living organisms on Earth. Briefly describe how heredity contributes to variation and how variation is important in evolutionary theory. Select one of the four forces of evolution: mutation, natural selection, genetic drift or gene flow and describe how it influences evolution. Second, select one developing genetic technology (gene therapy for cancers and other diseases, GMO's and genetic modification, designer babies, cloning, biological warfare, gene patenting, life extension, etc.) and discuss what impact you feel this technology will have on human societies of the future. Do you agree or disagree with the development of this technology? Do you feel that it is ethical? Will it require regulation or laws restricting its use? Are there social policies that we could implement today that will help us prepare for this developing technology in the future?
