ASSIGNMENT:
The final chapter for this unit dealt with production and consumption during the early modern era. Below you will find two documents, both produced in the nineteenth century, relating to slavery in the United States.
Although they are from a later period, they speak to the basic interconnectedness of slavery, capitalism, and globalization.
Look closely at these two documents. Do the best you can to decipher the parts that are written in hand. As a historian, what questions do you ask of these documents? What do these documents tell us about the the historical relationship between slavery and capitalism?
