What does a Chief Financial Officer do? For what is he or she responsible? This activity will help you to appreciate the role of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of an organization and more importantly what their organization is responsible for, what the organizational department does - its outcomes! Sometimes these executives are called the Vice President of Accounting and Finance or Finance and Administration, to name a few. All of this is useful to MIS.
Create a profile of you favorite company's chief accounting and finance officer. To do this, research your favorite company. Consider as well, if there is an organizational chart available as this will give you a graphic overview of the organization overall as well as the separate organizational departments including accounting and finance.
To create the profile, answer the following questions submitting your profile in the CFO Profile Discussion Forum. Once you submit your profile you will be able to see others' submittals. Take a few minutes reviewing others: "What do you see that is common and what is different as it pertains to the roles, responsibilities, etc. in other students' submittals?" Keep in mind these roles and responsibilities represent what the accounting and finance organization is responsible for - and maybe their business processes that produce those outputs! Perhaps, these are targeted areas for technological solutions?
