Analyze the effectiveness of the statistics methods

Assignment 1:

Many veterans of the Gulf War report debilitating illnesses that are unlike any described in medical textbooks. Can statistical methods be used to test what is going on here? Review the data presented in the peer reviewed manuscript entitled “Prevalence of Gulf war veterans who believe they have Gulf war syndrome: questionnaire study”

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11532836

Respond:

1) Identify methodology, data collection and discuss in a statistical content (i.e., probability, frequency) the results of this paper.

2) Explain and analyze the effectiveness of the statistics methods to determine the impact of Gulf War syndrome on U.S. Military Veterans.

3) Based on this paper and any additional resources (.i.e, cite sources), address whether or not current support the prevalence of Gulf War Syndrome.

Initial Response: Initial responses should be no less than 450-500 words in length not including your reference(s) and supported by at least two scholarly references (aside from the textbook).

Assignment 2:

To complete this lab assignment, you may use Excel Analysis Tool Pak, Megastat or any appropriate statistical software or resource available to you.

As a public health personnel, you conducted a survey and collected economic and health data on households in a township that is known to have a high prevalence of heart disease.  (See the Excel Household Data). The Household Data file contains data for 100 households surveyed including race, household income, family size, home price, number of bedrooms, and family history of heart disease.

Analyze the 100 survey responses and write a final report of your observation. Complete your report in a Word document, copying in the relevant output and graphics you need to support your report.  Your final report must be a complete report describing your findings from the data. Your report should be in APA format.

Part 1: Preliminary Report:

(i) Describe the household data using the appropriate descriptive statistics technique for each variable. Hint: Calculate the mean, median, mode, proportion, range, and standard deviation, etc, as appropriate.

(ii) Construct a frequency table and histogram of household income  in increments of $50,000 (for example, $0–$50,000, $50,001–$100,000, $100,001-$150,000, and so on).

Part 2:

You have already compute sample parameters for the data.

(i) Test the hypotheses that the average household income in the township is greater than $100,000. Hint: Start by stating the null and alternative hypotheses.

(ii) Construct a 95% CI for the proportion of households with family history of heart disease, separately for each race.  Would you say the proportion of households with history of heart disease differ by race?

Part 3: Final Report

You believe that income distribution differ by race.

(i) Formulate the null and alternative hypotheses you would use to for the test this claim.

(ii) Conduct the test and appropriately accept or reject your null hypotheses using ANOVA.

(iii) Is there any statistically significant difference  in the average household income based on race?

Your final report must be a complete report putting together and describing your findings from the analysis of the data from part 1 through part 3. Your report should be in APA format.
