Problem: The basic prompt is to analyze any poem we read for class (save those which have been marked "off limits" in the document below) 1000ish words please. Your thesis statement should be developed to answer the following question: What do you think is the poet's primary purpose (think: the main message) in writing the poem? To analyze the poem consider the following elements:
- form, including structure and rhyme scheme (if there is one);
- content (the story the poem is telling);
- sound and mood;
- language, including metaphorical, imagistic, and/or symbolic device
The thesis for my poem is that the poet uses repetition in order to convey his internal struggle with both of his identities.
The poem is called "Family Name" by Ibrahim Mokhtar.
