Discussion Post: Ways of Knowing in Nursing
Nurses have sought to understand the art and science of nursing since the time of Florence Nightingale. Six fundamental ways of knowing underpin nursing science. These ways of knowing include: (i) personal, (ii) empirical, (iii) ethical, (iv) aesthetics, (v) emancipatory, and (vi) unknowing. Consider how these ways of knowing contribute to knowledge development by addressing the following.
a) Which two ways of knowing have had the most influence on your understanding of nursing science?
b) Which two ways of knowing have you not considered previously and how will these ways of knowing shape your future nursing practice?
c) Provide an example of how nursing science encompassed the six ways of knowing to bridge a gap to improve a healthcare outcome
d) Examine nursing ways of knowing and the development of nursing science.
e) Provides personal or professional examples. The student must completely answer the entire initial question.
f) Analyze the concepts and principles used in theory development in nursing.
The response should include a reference list. Using one-inch margins, Times New Roman 12 pnt font, double-space and APA style of writing and citations.
