Information Technology Management

For this assignment, you will demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of information technology management, specifically of information security. In this assignment, you are going to demonstrate your ability to identify, assess and manage risks that might threaten a firm's information security.

Scenario: you are an information security specialist. A friend wants to start a retail business. She/he knows that a cash only operation is just not feasible. With the recent headlines about data breaches at Home Depot, Target, Sony and the US government, she is very concerned about how she is going to protect her own financial information as well as her future customers.

Create a 7-10 minute video that includes:

1. an overview of information security

2. an analysis of a recent major data/information security breach

3. a risk analysis for your friend's business

4. an information security plan for your friend's business; be sure to explain how this plan addresses the threats in #3

5. a summary of practices that business owners and customers can take to protect their personal and financial information

This assignment should be submitted as a 7 to 10 minute video. Create the video using PowerPoint 2010 or later and upload to your YouTube channel according to the instructions on the next page. This assignment represents a very commonly used skill in management. A polished, professional video could provide you with a strong representation of your presentation skills. It could also be included in your professional portfolio.

How to Make a YouTube Video

You will need: PPT 2010 or later and a recording device. Your computer may have an internal microphone, or you can purchase an inexpensive one at

- Walmart
- Amazon
- Frys

Prices vary, but you can get a USB microphone for under $10 - $15. USB microphones offer the best quality recording.

If you do not have PPT2010 or later, you can get it here. Once you have completed your slides, you will need to add the narration.

Record your narration. If you do not know how to add narration to your presentation, here is a short tutorial. When you are satisfied with your presentation and narration, save it as an MP4 (MPEG-4) or wmv (Windows Media Video) file. There are some simple edits you can make while you are in YouTube, such as volume control, however these are limited. The best approach is to make sure you start with a clean PPT with good audio. This will be a big file and so it may take some time to complete.

Upload your video on to your YouTube station

While logged into your YouTube account, click on the "upload" button in the upper right corner of your screen and follow the instructions. You can choose to make your video public, unlisted or private. If you want to keep your video to yourself and designate who can view it, select unlisted. This will allow only people with the URL to see it.

Watch your video!

It will only take a few minutes to upload and process. Be sure to watch your final product so you know if you need to make any edits.

Share your videos with friends, family and coworkers. This is a great way to get feedback and views!

What If I don't have a YouTube Station?

If you have a Gmail account, you already have a YouTube account; just click on the apps icon in the upper right corner and select the YouTube icon.

If you don't have a Gmail account, you can sign up for a YouTube account by following these steps, or you can sign up for a Gmail account for free.
