Assignment Task

Read and respond as requested to the following Scenario.

Context Statement

Jill Blundell has drafted a letter that is to be distributed widely in the community. Her aim is to rally support in opposition to the recent Coalition policy on withholding child support and family tax benefit payments from families that refuse to immunise their children. The organisation called Community Family Support Foundation is determining whether it should add its support to Jill's cause or to withhold it and so, has asked for help in evaluating the strength of Mrs Blundell's argument.

Your Task

You are being asked to provide the support needed to establish whether the argument in Mrs Blundell's letter has any merit. This will mean compiling an accurate and comprehensive evaluation of the argument that will be easy for the administrators of the Foundation to understand and access. The administrators will be deciding on whether to offer or withhold both moral and financial support for Mrs Blundell's campaign based on your evaluation of the argument, so your advice will play an instrumental role in that process. You are asked to provide a clear statement of what the decision of the administrators should be, i.e. to provide both moral and financial support to the campaign, only moral support, only financial support, etc, or to withhold both moral and financial support, only financial support, only moral support, etc. The reasons for your statement should be made clear in your evaluation of the argument.

• Some resources have been made available to you to help in compiling your report, which include:
• A copy of Mrs Blundell's letter that has been distributed widely throughout communities.
• A link to an Australian Government website that might contain important supplementary information in determining the veracity of Mrs Blundell's claims.
• Feel free to utilise any further material you deem relevant. But remember, it is only the argument contained in the letter that is being evaluated, so it must be relevant to the claims being made by Mrs Blundell.

You should supply all of the following in your submission:

• A standardisation of the argument contained in Mrs Blundell's letter
• An analysis of the strengths and weaknesses found in the argument. (up to 500 words)
• An analysis of the rhetoric used in the argument. (up to 500 words)
• A recommendation of advice for the Community Family Support Foundation. (up to 250 words)
