Alzheimer’s Disease (AD):
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive, degenerative disease of the brain that impairs one’s memory and thinking abilities and, over time, even one’s ability to perform very simple tasks. According to a 2013 National Institute on Aging report on AD it is estimated that as many as 5 million Americans may be affected by the disorder. This number is projected to increase to 13.8 million people by 2050.
Please discuss some of the current theoretical models on what mechanisms may be involved in the disease as well as some of the research investigating early AD detection and the risk factors for cognitive decline in AD.
