After reading the Sanger primary source document, write an essay that engages with gender in the early 1920s. Margaret Sanger becomes an outspoken leader of the women's movement in the 1920s. Why do you think Sanger believes women should have control of their bodies? How does she value the role of women in the United States? And, finally what do you think this family planning will do in regards to the empowerment of women? Use the documents as evidence to back your claims.
In the introduction, summarize the role of women in the United States up to the 1920s . You can use lectures, lecture notes, and the textbook. In the introduction, all you have to do in three of four sentences is provide the background for how you plan to address the questions. At the end of the introduction form and argument. For example: In this paper I'm going to argue that the modernization of the United States in the 1920s reshaped gender roles and women began to take an active approach of their bodies by carefully planning their families.
In the body of the paper you should write a paragraph that addresses the ideas you outlined in your thesis statement (in my example that would be family planning through birth control). Make sure you give solid examples and evidence from the documents to back your claims.
In the conclusion, take the opposite position then your argument. For example, I argued that women reclaimed the right when to have children, but this had lots of other repercussions. One, this lead to the rise of religion again in the United States. Two, getting control of their bodies seemes to benefit the upper middle class as they had more direct access to health care....

Before turning in your paper make sure to set aside a time to proofread your work. Watch out for passive voice and any mechanical errors. Also, format your paper with 1" margins and double-space the entire paper. No quadruple spacing between paragraphs.
