Addressing racism in public health means looking at all aspects of the community including housing, employment, environmental, food insecurity and safety of the neighborhood. All these reason can lead to lack of availability to healthcare among residents that can go on for generations which contributes to poorer health outcomes among minorities (Goosby & Heidbrink, 2013). In order for racism to change, public health must look at the whole picture when it comes to healthcare. Addressing underlying factors and adverse impacts should be put in place. These include policies that provide early childhood development, provide work and income support and ensure healthy housing. Another area of systemic racism that needs to be addressed is health equality. Policies and programs that ensure that access to high quality care, including preventative care and addressing social and emotional needs as well as physical need to included in healthcare delivery (Williams & Cooper, 2019). Lessons learned from the Bellmont report should continue to push policy forward in decreasing health inequality among minorities.
