Problem:
However, it is inadequate to only address how sexual violence occurs and what behaviors are predictors of it, but rather to also give light to why they occur and why they continue. In Holz et al. (2018) and Rothman's (2018) studies, the authors argued that sexual prevention programs will be effective long-term when tailored by gender-related findings (e.g., access to information, rape-related concerns) (Holz et al., 2018) as well as awareness on the categories of underlying reasons, such as "paraphilia, an attitude of entitlement, socio-emotional functioning problems, and self-regulation problems" (Rothman, 2018). Overall, the most striking finding may be from the argument by Rothman (2018), Witte et al., (2017), and Zinzow et al., (2018) that sexual violence intervention needs to heavily involve offenders and the community more than ever since putting the responsibility solely on victims is clearly ineffective. The studies provided substantial contribution to the topic of sexual violence despite inevitable limitations on, particularly, qualitative methods and selected participants. The authors responsibly shed light on the topic with well-selected literature and introduction of novel measures as well as invite more insights that may eventually inspire more scholars to replicate their research in order to improve existing preventive measures on sexual violence.
