Conditioned reflex:

The Russian Physiologist Ivan Pavlov first explained ‘the conditioned reflex’ fact. The cerebral cortex controls the conditioned reflexes. It is also termed as the classical conditioning, in which a stimulus comes to bring out a response analogous to the response produced by some other stimulus.

In his experiment, Pavlov represented a dog with a sound of a bell (i.e., Neutral stimulus) obeyed by meat (i.e., Unconditioned stimulus). This combined stimuli stimulated the dog to salivate (i.e., unconditioned response). After such conditioned pairings the sound only (i.e., Conditioned stimulus) would stimulate the dog to salivate (i.e., Conditioned response - CR).

The bell sound initially termed as the neutral stimulus that after a number of trials pairing with an unconditioned stimulus namely, the meat piece, becomes the conditioned stimulus. Likewise the salivation of the dog throughout the initial trials of pairing (NS + UCS) is termed as Unconditioned Response (UR). This unconditioned response afterward becomes designated into a conditioned response (CR). It will be elicit just by bell sound (CS).
