Introduction to Deployment Diagrams

Some  aspects  of deployment diagrams  are:

  • They model the physical aspects of an objects oriented systems.
  • These diagrams shown the configuration of run time processing nodes and the components that live on them.
  • They model the topology of the hardware on which the system executes.
  • Deployment diagrams are basically class diagrams that focus on systems nodes.

It should  be noted that physical  element  that exists  at run time  and that  represents a computational resource, generally has some  memory  and often  some  processing  capability.

A deployment  diagram for TCP/IP layout  between a PC and server is shown  in fig 8.36,

It is designed to model many  of the  hardware aspects  of a system sufficient  for a software  engineer or specify  the platform on which the  system  software executes.

Deployment  diagrams  reason  about  the hardware  aspects  of the  system such  as topology  of processors  and devices  on which  the software executes.

Deployment diagrams visualize the static aspects of the physical nodes and their relationships.

Content of Deployment Diagrams

These diagrams contain the nodes and relationship. These diagrams may also  include components each of which  must live on some  node.

Use of Deployment Diagrams

Deployment  diagrams can be  ignored in those system where the software to be developed lives on one  machine and interfaces only with  standard devices on  that  machine that  are already well  managed by the  host operating system
