The first law of thermodynamics states that energy can be changed from one form to the other but can neither be created nor destroyed in any procedure. The mathematical expression that is used to symbolize the first law of thermodynamics is ΔE = q-w, here ΔE refers to the internal energy change of the system when ‘w’ amount of work is completed by the system when it absorbs ‘q’ quantity of heat and carries out ‘w’ quantity of work. Though, this law possesses many limitations which are specified below:

1. The first law of thermodynamics simply points out that in any procedure there is a transformation among the various forms of energy included in the procedure although gives no information regarding the feasibility of such transformation.
