Introduction to TRF Radio Receiver
This radio receiver is a straight radio receiver. It is termed as tuned radio frequency receiver. It contains the following stages:
i) RF Amplifier
ii) Detector
iii) Audio Amplifier
iv) Power supply
RF AMPLIFIER
RF amplifier is a tuned radio frequency amplifier. RF amplifier amplifies the radio frequency signal that is selected through antenna.
DETECTOR
It is employed among the RF and IF amplifiers. It works like an amplitude modulated detector. Detector will convert RF signals into AF signals. Crystal of signal diodes are employed in it.
AUDIO AMPLIFIER
It amplifier the strength of audio signals. It consist of pre amplifier, driver and output amplifiers. The driver and pre amplifiers are voltage amplifiers. The power amplifier is output amplifier. The audio signal is converted by speaker into sound.
POWER SUPPLY
It supplies the needed voltage to all stage of the receiver. Battery or battory eliminator is employed like power supply.
MERITS
1. It is a just simple receiver.
2. Simple circuits are employed
3. Alignment is not essential
DEMERITS
1. Selectivity and Sensitivity are low.
2. Poor fidelity
3. Low stability
