Introduction to Deflection Yoke:

The placement of the two pairs of coils physically around the neck of the picture tube is demonstrated in diagram and the orientation of the magnetic fields generated through them is displayed in diagram. In combination, the vertical and horizontal deflection coils are termed as 'Yoke'. This yoke is set outside and close to the neck of the tube just before it starts to flare out.

It may be noticed that a perpendicular displacement results .since the magnetic field because of each coil reacts with the magnetic field of the electron beam to generate a force that deflects the electrons at right angles to both the beam axis and the deflection field.

Generally the picture tubes are manufactured according to the following ratio. It is the ratio among length and height of the picture tube. The ratio is 4:3.

KELL FACTOR

Throughout scanning in a raster all 625 horizontal lines are not totally employed. Between those 40 lines each frame (20 lines per field) are used for vertical blanking.

Therefore 625-40 = 585 lines are called as Active lines. Between these 70% lines are alone termed as Effective lines and this is known as Kell factor.
