Electron transport system:

The photosynthesis’ light driven reactions are considered to as electron transport chain. While PS II absorbs photons of light, it is get excited and the electrons are transported by electron transport chain of cytochrome b6, plastoquinone, plastocyanin and cytochrome f. The electrons that are released from PS II phosphorylate ADP to ATP. This procedure of ATP creation from ADP in the existence of light in chloroplast is termed as photophosphorylation.

Here, the PS II is in oxidised state. It forms a potential to split water molecules to protons, oxygen and electrons. This light dependent splitting of water molecules is termed as photolysis of water.  Calcium, Manganese and chloride ions play major roles in the photolysis of water. So the electrons released are employed in the reduction of PS II.  Likewise to PS II, PS I is excited through absorbing photons of light and gets oxidised. This PS I’s oxidised state draws electrons from PS II and reduced. The electrons that are released to PS I are transported by electron transport chain of ferredoxin reducing substrate, ferredoxin and ferredoxin NADP reductase to reduce NADP+ to NADPH2 .
