C3 and C4 pathways:

It was one time thought that all green plants fix CO2 by Calvin cycle only. Here, we make out that specific plants fix CO2 in a dissimilar photosynthetic mechanism termed as C4 pathway. In C3 plants both the first reaction that is light reactions and second reaction dark reactions take place in mesophyll cells, while in C4 plants, the technique of photosynthesis needs two sorts of photosynthetic cells –

1. mesophyll cells and
2. bundle sheath cells.

The C4 plants consist of dimorphic chloroplast that is chloroplasts in mesophyll cells are granal (with grana) while in bundle sheath chloroplasts are agranal (with no grana). The existence of two sorts of cells leads to segregation of photosynthetic work that is light reactions and dark reactions separately.
