Dicoumarol refers to an anticoagulant drug. Because of its molecular structure dicoumarol competes with the vitamin K in order to bind to the substrates blocking the formation of clotting factors and interrupting in the fomation of prothrombin. Dicoumarol is also found in some of the vegetables undergoing decomposition, and it can also cause severe internal hemorrhages in case those vegetables are ingested accidentally. Coumarinic anticoagulants is not administered during pregnancy as they pass placental barrier and can result in the fetal hemorrhages.
