The pineal gland, as well termed as pineal body or epiphysis, is located centrally in the head. It secretes hormone melatonin, a hormone generated at night and associated to the regulation of the circadian rhythm (or circadian cycle, wakefulness-sleep cycle). The Melatonin possibly regulates most of the body functions associated to the night-day alternation.
