Fibroids, also termed as leiomyomas, are gentle smooth muscle tumors which take place in the uterus. They grow beneath the influence of progesterone and estrogen, and are therefore seen in the reproductive years. By the age of 40, 40 percent of women have fibroids. African-American women might be prone to acquire symptomatic fibroids in their 20’s. With menopause and the reduction in hormones, fibroid also reduces in size. The most common symptom from fibroids is abnormal bleeding. Whenever fibroids grow, it can as well cause pressure symptoms on the bladder, rectum or in pelvis. There might be a genetic predisposition to encompass fibroids and multiple fibroids.
