Whenever some tissue injury takes place histamine and other vasoactive substances (termed as mediators of inflammation) are liberated, they cause vasodilation and the blood flow to the affected site rises. Granulocyte leukocytes existed in the blood are attracted to the site of injury by substances termed as chemotactic factors as well liberated by the injured tissue and by active granulocytes in the region. The granulocytes depart the capillaries by diapedesis that is, employing pseudopods. Macrophages existed in the area are activated as well. Such cells flood extracellular space of the affected region trying to kill or remove harmful agents, to prevent tissue necrosis and to isolate the injured tissue.
