In the fermentation glucose (sugar) is tainted in pyruvic acid (each glucose molecule forms out two pyruvic acid molecules). In this procedure two molecules of ATP are produced. According to type of the fermentation, pyruvic acid can generate ethanol as well as carbon dioxide (in the alcoholic fermentation) or the lactic acid (in the lactic fermentation).
