Three distinct portions make up the Global Positioning System. The primary segment of the system comprises of 24 satellites, orbiting 20,000 km above the Earth in 12 hr circular orbits. This signifies that it takes each satellite 12 hrs to make a complete circle about the Earth. In order to make sure that they can be noticed from anywhere on the Earth’s surface, the satellites are classified into six groups of four. Each group is allocated a different path to pursue. This makes six orbital planes that completely surround the Earth.
