Generic function of leukocytes
Describe the generic function of leukocytes? What are leukopenia and leukocytosis?
Expert
The generic function of leukocytes is to contribute in the defense of the body against odd agents which penetrate it or are made within the body. Leukopenia and Leukocytosis are clinical conditions in which the count of leukocytes in a blood sample is not normal. Whenever the leukocyte count in a blood sample is above the normal level for individual leukocytosis is stated. Whenever the leukocyte count is lower than the expected normal level, then leukopenia is stated. The multiplication of such defense cells, leukocytosis, usually occurs whenever the body is suffering infections or in cancers of such cells. The lowering of such defense cells, or leukopenia, takes place whenever some diseases attack the cells, such as in AIDS, or whenever immune-suppressor drugs are utilized. In common, the body makes leukocytosis as a defense reaction whenever it is facing pathogenic or infectious agents. The clinical situation of leukocytosis is therefore a sign of infection. Leukopenia takes place whenever there is a lack in the production (for illustration, in bone marrow diseases) or extreme destruction of leukocytes (for illustration, in case of HIV infection).
