Read Only Memory or ROM refers to the memory device where permanent binary information is stored. The binary information is generally specified by the designer which is then embedded within the unit to make the needed inter-connection pattern. The pattern remains inside the unit, even after the power is turned off and then on again.Within the ROM, the programmable intersection between the two lines is termed as a cross point. It is logically equivalent to the switch which can be changed to either be close or open.
