Duties of data link layer
Write down some of the duties of data link layer?
Expert
The duties of data link layer are as described below:
a) Framing: It divides the stream of bits received to data units termed as frames.
b) Physical addressing: When frames are to be distributed to various systems on the network, data link layer adds a header to frame to define the sender and receiver.
c) Flow control: When the rate at which the data are absorbed by receiver is less than the rate produced in the sender, and then the Data link layer imposes a flow control method.
d) Error control: It is used for detecting and retransmitting damaged or lost frames and to prevent the duplication of frames. This is accomplished via a trailer added at the end of frame.
e) Access control: It is used to find out which device has control over the link at any specific time.
STLS: POP utilizes the Transmission Control Protocol on port number 110. Transmission might be encrypted by using Transport Layer Security (TLS) or Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). It is negotiated in the POP3 protocol by using the STLS command. Some clien
