Duties of data link layer
Write down some of the duties of data link layer?

The duties of data link layer are as described below:
a) Framing: It divides the stream of bits received to data units termed as frames.
b) Physical addressing: When frames are to be distributed to various systems on the network, data link layer adds a header to frame to define the sender and receiver.
c) Flow control: When the rate at which the data are absorbed by receiver is less than the rate produced in the sender, and then the Data link layer imposes a flow control method.
d) Error control: It is used for detecting and retransmitting damaged or lost frames and to prevent the duplication of frames. This is accomplished via a trailer added at the end of frame.
e) Access control: It is used to find out which device has control over the link at any specific time.

Persistent connections: In HTTP/0.9 and 1.0, the connection is nearby after a single request or response pair. In HTTP/1.1 a keep-alive-mechanism was mentioned, where a connection could be used again for more than one request.
