Senders determine the congestion window for window, start size of the congestion window is one segment. Sender transmits one packet and waits for the acknowledgement. If acknowledgement is received it increases the level of congestion window by one. If the sender transmits two packets and in case the acknowledgement comes it increases level of the congestion window by 2. This scheme increases the level of congestion window each time the acknowledges come back that takes the round trip time (RTT).This is known as the exponential growth of congestion window.
