The panel of network ports contained altogether, generally within a telecommunications closet which joins incoming and outgoing lines of a LAN or other communication, electronic or electrical system. In a LAN, the patch panel joins the network's computers to one other and to the outside lines which enable the LAN to join to the Internet or other WAN. Connections are made with patch cords. The patch panel permits circuits to be arranged and re-arranged by plugging and un-plugging the patch cords.
