Digestive functions of liver
State digestive functions of liver?
Expert
Besides allowing the bile for release in duodenum, liver also has other digestive Functions. Venous network which absorbs the nutrients from guts, known as mesenteric circulation, drains content of the blood almost entirely to hepatic portal vein. This vein irrigates liver with the absorbed material from digestion. So the liver performs the functions of processing, storing and inactivating nutrients. Glucose is polymerized into the glycogen in liver; this organ also stores several vitamins and iron is absorbed in the intestine. Some imperative metabolic molecules, such as albumin and clotting factors, are made in liver from amino acids of diet. In the liver ingested toxic substances, such as drugs and alcohol, are also inactivated too.
