Difference between the adult and human fetal circulation
Regarding the mixture of arterial with venous blood what is the basic difference between the adult and human fetal circulation?
Expert
In human fetal circulation there are two communications: arterial and venous blood characterizing an incomplete circulation. One of them is the oval foramen, an opening among the right and the left atria of fetal heart. The other is the arterial duct, a short vessel joining the pulmonary artery to the aorta. Such communications close a few days subsequent to birth and therefore they do not exist in the adult heart.
