Gametes are the cells which are specialized in sexual reproduction. They have half of the most number of chromosomes of the species and mix with another gamete giving birth to a zygote with twice of the number of chromosomes of the gametic cells. In human beings gametes are produced by meiosis; the male gametes are the sperm cells whereas female gametes are the egg cells.
