Assignment:
PART 1: Write a 1000 to 1250 word essay addressing the following questions. Be sure to completely answer all the questions for each bullet point. There should be a separate section for each of the questions; separate each section in your paper with a clear heading that allows your professor to know which bullet you are addressing in that section of your paper. Support your ideas with at least three (3) sources in your essay. Make sure to reference the citations using the APA writing style for the essay. The cover page and reference page do not count toward the minimum word count.
1. Why is collecting vehicle crash data important? What are some of the methods of data collection? What are some of the sources of the data? Where do you see crash data used? Discuss common problems of crash data.
2. Explore your state laws regarding the requirements to obtaining a motor vehicle operator's license, and to register a personal passenger motor vehicle. Report on your findings and then compare them to another state. Discuss which state is more restrictive.
3. Discuss how the implementation of graduated driver's licenses has directly affected the number of deaths resulting from traffic crashes involving teen drivers.
PART 2: Authentic Performance Task:
As the Director of Traffic Safety for your state, you have been asked to prepare a memo for the Commissioner of Transportation outlining the recent traffic crash trends and recommending how to reduce crash fatalities in your state. Your memo should be at least 250 words and at a minimum, include recent trends and make data-based recommendations. Base your response on the information in NHTSA publications 812456 and 812392 and at least one additional scholarly source.
