Assignment:
Write a choose one of the following topics:
1. Research on colonization as it applies to Africans in the United States in the 1800s will show that there was much controversy on that topic. Research the two sides of the issue, and write a paper arguing for the side with which you agree. Do not argue the issue from a contemporary point of view. Your argument must consist of the argument of that time period. 2. Research the ideas of W.E.B. DuBois and Booker T. Washington. Write a paper arguing for the side with which you agree. You may include contemporary issues in your argument, but remember that your paper is about the ideas of DuBois and Washington and the controversy those ideas provoked at the time.
Use MLA style for in-text citations and a works cited page. You will lose points if you do not follow that style exactly. Please also refer to the information on plagiarism found in Handouts. Remember also that this assignment is to be written as an argument paper! Look in Handouts for help on how to set up an argument paper. If you are not sure what that means, you may want to consider getting help from the Writing Center on Campus.
