Assessment Task:

In small groups you will research Hospitality Action and comply with the brief to produce a Business Plan (minimum 2,000 words each student). The brief requires you to create a live event, which will need to be meticulously planned and executed within the timeframe of the academic year.

Brief:

Hospitality Action was originally founded as the ‘London Coffee House Keepers Association’ for the purpose of “relieving aged and decayed members of the trade, their widows and orphans” who “from reverses of fortune (to which we are all liable) might be reduced from a state of comparative prosperity to the alternative of dragging out a miserable existence within the walls of a workhouse”. Established in 1837 Hospitality Action, the Hospitality Industry Benevolent organisation, has offered vital assistance to all who work, or have worked within hospitality in the UK and who find themselves in crisis. The organisation supports those suffering from life altering illnesses, experiencing poverty, bereavement and domestic violence or retired from the industry and  isolated.

The client would like you to create an event to raise awareness of Hospitality Action and the support network available for current/past employees of the hospitality industry. Hospitality Action has a number of events throughout the year that are crucial to raising vital funds for the charity. Your event should support the events in other regions in raising the profile of Hospitality Action. The money raised will go towards grants for essential items including food, equipment and central heating, supporting often isolated and lonely retired hospitality workers, whilst also running educational seminars advising catering students of the dangers of drug and alcohol misuse.

Within your Business Plan, the areas you may wish to consider could include:

Evidence that you have researched Hospitality Action (Appendix material to support your findings).

Planning and preparation of stages for your event.

Provide a management plan of your live business using strategic academic management models, concepts and theories to justify your plans using Harvard referencing.

Conclusions and recommendations.

You will ensure each student’s name is on the event coordinator roles relevant section of the Business Plan to demonstrate work produced.
