OPTIONS FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PAPER (PICK ONE)
The paper has to do with cultural competence which is the ability to understand, communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures. Cultural competence encompasses: being aware of one's own world view, developing positive attitudes towards cultural differences.
OPTION ONE: Cultural Competence ~ Violence in Society
Watch one of the following movies: Save the Last Dance, Do The Right Thing, Lost in Translation, The Blind Side, Gran Torino or Radio. (Note: I have a copy you may check out from me but will have to be brought back.) You may also watch the movie online (Netflix, etc.) or purchase the movie.
1) What do our beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors contribute or take away from ourselves and others?
2) How does this movie make you think differently about how you can impactcultural diversity problems, etc.?
3) Name at least three issues you noticed in the movie that contributed to cultural competence situations. How should these situations have been handled? Please be specific in your answer citing the outcomes.
4) What have you learned about yourself from this movie? How does it make you a better person?
5) How has your own culture shaped your world view? How can you adjust your actions to successfully interact with someone from another culture?
6) Locate two sources from the online databases about helping behaviors and how they can lead to significant improvements within society regarding cultural competence, etc. Include at least one quote from each source in your paper. Be sure to include a "Works Cited" page in your paper.
OPTION TWO: Altruism and Helping Behavior Survey
Conduct an experiment.
1) Find 15 subjects to take the survey regarding altruism:
Score items as follows:
Never = 1 - Once = 2 - More than Once = 3 - Often = 4 - Very Often = 5
Add scores for each item together. Higher scores indicate more altruistic behavior. Highest possible score is 70; lowest possible score is 14.
2) What were the results? How do these findings relate to social responsibility and what impact does it have on society as a whole?
3) Based on your findings, how do you feel mental illness, physical/mental/emotional abuse, addictions, etc. are affected?
4) What have you learned about yourself as a result of this activity? How does it make you a better person?
5) How has your own culture shaped your world view? How can you adjust your actions to successfully interact with someone from another culture?

Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
1. The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
2. The response also include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
3. Also Include a reference page. The Citations and references should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
