Assessment 1 - PROJECT

You are employed as a construction manager for a local domestic house builder. The business has expanded recently, due to the high quality of workmanship and associated referrals from happy clients that followed.

You are looking for the following personnel to join your team
- Building Supervisor
- General Maintenance Person - to go between all current projects undertaking minor rectifications as required

In summary - this unit requires you to develop, advertise, interview, shortlist and offer a position to someone. As a group, each student will "advertise" their positions, and a selection of their fellow class members will apply. (It is important that each "applicant" take this opportunity seriously, as it will be invaluable practice for apply for, and attending job interviews in real life!).

Your task is to create a Job description for the 2 different positions that will be available within your business. (You will also be responsible for placing this job advertisement in the appropriate advertising medium)

When putting this job description together you can draw on your own knowledge of what skills, knowledge and experience is required to perform this role. You may also need to do some research to find out what skills are required for this position this could be done through using the internet, and other tools that would help you compile this job description.

- An interview proforma / assessment form you can use within your organisation when recruiting new employees. This proforma should include a list of questions you would ask your candidates during the interview
- 2 different vacancy advertisement - one for print media and one for online media.

Instruction for Students:
Whilst researching and writing your assessment, it is important to:
- Read the Assessment description carefully.
Assessment should be in a Word format.
Assemble and analyze a set of sources that you have determined are relevant to the issues you are investigating.

Assessment 2 - Observation/Demonstration

Working with another person, you will be required to prepare for and conduct face to face interviews with a minimum of 2 applicants for either one of the positions detailed in Assessment 1, or for an administrative assistant. You will be provided with 4 job applications from other students. Your partner and yourself will form the selection panel, and are expected to:
- Develop relevant interview questions
- Short list candidates from the applications provided
- Interview each candidate as outlined below"
- Select the most suitable candidate for the position (or explain why no candidate is suitable)
- Negotiate salary and employment conditions with successful candidate-2
Contact the students referee (to be role played by your assessor)
- Advise the successful candidate of the result in writing
- Advise the unsuccessful candidate of the result in writing
- Provide an employment contract and relevant workplace forms to your chosen candidate
- Advise all other relevant people of the new employee within the organisation (other members to be role-played by the assessor)

You are to allocate 2 other students to play the role of the candidate, whilst you perform the role of the employer. In the event that the other students are not suitable for this role-play, you can perform the role of one candidate, and another staff member can perform the role of the second candidate

When providing a total package for offer, ensure you entail gross salary, superannuation, employment conditions (in line with students process), and other benefits on offer. Keep the figures realistic to the level of the position being offered.
