Pitcher:
In the pitcher plant (that is, Nepenthes) the leaf becomes transformed into a pitcher. There is a slender stalk that coils similar to a tendril holding the pitcher vertical and the basal portion is flattened similar to a leaf. The pitcher is given with a lid that covers the mouth. The function of the pitcher is to capture and digest insets. The lamina is transformed into pitcher. The rim of the pitcher is delightfully colored and it is given with a row of nectar glands for fascinating insects. The inner wall of the pitcher is given with glands secreting a watery fluid. There are as well hairs pointed downwards beneath the rim. This arrangement prevents the insects entering the pitcher from evading out. The insects acquire drowned in the fluid and it is digested by the enzymes secreted by the glands. Therefore the plant is capable to acquire nitrogenous food.
