Corm

Corm:

It is less or a more condensed form of rhizome. This is a short, stout, solid and fleshy underground stem developing in the vertical direction. It is less or more rounded in shape or frequently somewhat flattened from top to the bottom. This contains excessive deposits of food material and grows to a considerable size. This bears one or more buds in the axil of scale leaves and some of these buds grow into aerial flowering shoots and from the base adventitous roots pass into the soil. The food stuffs get stored in the basal portion and in this manner a new corm is formed. Example: Colocasia, Amorphophalus and so on.
