The two major types of the fermentation are lactic fermentation and alcoholic fermentation.

In the alcoholic fermentation pyruvic acid, intermediate molecule, is changed in ethanol with the emancipation of carbon dioxide. The alcoholic fermentation equation is:

C6 H12 O6 + 2 ADP + P --> 2 C2 H5 OH + 2 CO2 + 2 ATP

In the lactic fermentation pyruvic acid is altered in lactic acid and there is refusal of production of the carbon dioxide. The lactic fermentation equation is as follows:

C6 H12 O6 + 2 ADP + P --> 2 C3 H5 OOH + 2 ATP
