Merits are listed as follows:

a) Gas turbines are flexible to work with any type of fuel.
b) Its compact size, less weight and low space requirement is another advantage.
c) Simple foundation and low installation cost.
d) Less vibration.

Demerits are listed as follows:

a) High operating temperature in the combustion chamber; hence special alloys with high temperature should be   used.
b) Thermal efficiency is very low.
c) Suitable only for large capacity.
d) Large sized exhaust duct due to large requirement of air for cooling and combustion.
